Comprehensive Hosting Guide?

Greetings, All,

I, too, want to host a seed on my own (leased) virtual server, but I don't know how to get started. Is there a comprehensive guide to setting up the Diaspora server/client software? Can someone please post a link to it, if it exists?

I signed into the Alpha program today, and I was troubled by the Facebook app requiring that it be allowed to "access my data any time." I would be okay with this, however, if I knew that my Diaspora* server (which, presumably, would be the entity accessing my FB data "any time") were under my control. In the meantime, I've decided not to integrate with FB, and I will probably approach my use of Diaspora* a lot more hesitantly until I can get my own Diaspora* server up and running.

Can any one offer some help? And, while we are all waiting for more help on this, could someone from the Diaspora* team give us some more details on why the FB app wants to access our data any time, and where that data would be stored if we are using the @joindiaspora servers?
