Hm, OneSocialWeb looks promising. Why has there been so much buzz about Diaspora if these already exist? What's new?

I think the announcement of diaspora just came at the perfect time. Media outlets were dogging facebook over their privacy practices, along comes a social network that puts you in control of your info, and the media starts calling it the "facebook killer".
Notice that other than some tech sites, the news has pretty much forgot about diaspora?
The 15 is going to be a big day whendiaspora is released, but i think the news will report it as a social network that is too confusing for the average user. If they had the hosted version ready to go by the 15, that would stop that spin they may put on it. I dont think the hosted version will be up until oct.
It will be intwresting to see how this plays out and how other open source social neyworks will react.
Here is what I would call - centralized decentralization. Remember the "plugging in" and "unplugging" analogy I talked about?

Diaspora was really easy to install. That's all I know.
